Here’s a slide show of some of our amazing friends and family that turned out for the launch of mybikelaw. Many thanks to PFE Photo for the wonderful photography.

Ann has finally settled into a new office at 225 E. Worthington.  Great office and it’s a few blocks further than the old one so it makes sense to ride instead of walk.  Much more fun getting here on the bike!

Ann had a wonderful time last night at the Dirt Divas meeting.  They are not only a fun group of women but also a very community conscious and involved group.  See www.dirtdivas.net.  I will be sending in my check soon to join.

Ann is going tonight to meet with Charlotte’s Dirt Divas.  Looking forward to it!

Usually I really like courthouses in smaller counties.  Let’s see what Shelby has to offer.

Our client Rich Halbeisen’s August 1 bicycle crash has stirred up Charlotte’s cycling community. After plowing over Rich from behind, sending him flying into the air and to the hospital, the 82 year old driver who hit Rich kept driving until another driver followed and made him pull over.  The driver who hit Rich was so far to the right of the lane that he blew his tire against the curb.  The witness said the thud was so loud when the car hit Rich, there was no way the driver could not have known he hit someone.  Despite the witness’ statement and the driver’s terrible history of causing personal injury accidents, no warrant for hit and run or even a traffic citation was issued.  Frustrated, and afraid for the driver’s next victim, Rich wrote a letter to Mecklenburg County’s District Attorney, Peter Gilchrist, to ask what could be done about this man’s license.  He emailed the letter to a  fellow cyclist who passed it on and it is now circulating among the cycling and political community.  I’ll keep you posted on what happens next.

Local high-schooler has organized a ride to Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Really great idea:

There’s an online petition in support of the effort: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/my/dashboard/579296697

One of several trials coming up in North Carolina.  Wish us luck!..ag

Almost five months after Max was born and I finally found a window of time big enough to pack up my Santa Cruz and hit some trails.  Last Sunday morning was beautiful and perfect day for a trail ride.  Unfortunately I found myself with a flat, no tube and no stores open yet.  Keeping my fingers crossed for this weekend!

Many cyclists don’t even know that their own car insurance comes into play when they are involved in a wreck with a car.  Those with significant injuries are often shocked to hear that the driver who hit them has minimum or low limits.  The only way to protect yourself is to make sure your own coverage is adequate.  Call your insurance company today and tell them you want to increase your UIM coverage…ag

“Green Metropolis” is the most important book I’ve read in a long time. Turning a lot of green policies on their heads, David Owen explains that living closer, living smaller and denser, mass transit, and biking and walking more are the keys to green. New cars, green buildings in the exurbs, and local food are not. You have to read this book, if nothing else as example of how to think clearly about any issue.
